Trusteeship
Learn about the role of a public school board trustee and the positions Laura has held during her first term.

The role of trustee
As established in Alberta’s Education Act, a trustee of a board, as a partner in education, has the responsibility to:
(a) fulfil the responsibilities of the board as set out in section 33,
(b) be present and participate in meetings of the board and committees of the board,
(c) comply with the board’s code of conduct, and
(d) engage parents, students and the community in matters related to education.
Board Chair
I served as Board Chair, which involved chairing all public and in-camera meetings, representing the board at events many of which included giving remarks. I was the media spokesperson on behalf of the board of trustees, which meant print, radio, and televised interviews. I served as ex-officio of all board committees on which I was not already serving.
